Object 1: Weekend Basketball
Every weekend, weather permitting, I get together with my friends at my house or at Wines Elementary to play basketball and blast music. There are three critical components to each session: my beat up shoes (worn almost exclusively for these sessions), my basketball worn rough from the pavement, and most importantly my speaker. While we play basketball, the main event really is getting together and enjoying each other through activity and music. In order to do this, I balanced the image by incorporating the most essential components, and giving them equal space within the photo. I placed the speaker in the middle as it was the most dominating object, but it also allowed for nice contrast and overall balance between the colors of the surrounding objects and background.
Object 2: Paying the bills
Growing up my dad would always pay the bills with his computer in front of him, and checkbook and pen next to him. I always thought it was a very "grown up" thing to do. Recently, I turned 18 and as part of this obtained my own checkbook just like the one my dad uses. This past weekend I needed to write and pay my first round of dues to various outlets, and it was a reminder that I am reaching the entering stages of adulthood. I wanted to document this moment by placing the objects just as I remember them laying every time my dad did his taxes. I placed them on the dining room table cloth to add a nice background and easy contrast between the objects. The large windows nearby allowed for natural light to be utilized during the shoot as well, providing the best hue.
